The title of best-selling sports coupe in the world is a highly coveted honor, and the new Ford Mustang has stolen the spotlight and claimed the title for another year. In fact, it’s the fourth year in a row that the Ford Mustang has earned the prestigious honor.
More than 113,000 were sold around the world in 2018. More than 75,000 left dealership showrooms in the United States alone.
The Ford Mustang was available in 146 countries in 2018, and more than 500,000 sixth-generation units have left dealer lots since it debuted in 2015. In total, the Mustang nabbed 15.4 percent of the segment market share.
“We broke the mold when Ford launched the Mustang 55 years ago,” said Jim Farley, Ford president of global markets. “Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang; it’s an icon. The roar of its V8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.”
The Ford Mustang Bullitt helped fuel the sport car’s fire by surpassing global sales forecasts by 25 percent. Now in its 55th year, the Ford Mustang continues to stand out with a nod towards the muscle car’s heritage.
