Eagle Squadron Mustang GT Celebrates Royal Air Force

Mustang GT

Every year in Wisconsin, aeronautics fans gather together for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s The Gathering fundraiser and auction. While you might not think about Ford having a place in the aircraft industry, it builds a custom vehicle for this celebration each year. This year’s vehicle is an Eagle Squadron Mustang GT that celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the Royal Air Force.

The Eagle Squadron was a group of U.S. volunteer pilots who flew alongside Royal Air Force pilots before the United States officially entered World War II. The Eagle Squadron Mustang is designed to mimic the appearance of the original Eagle Squadron Spitfire planes. It features a camouflaged design along with a wide-body kit, an upper grille with integrated lighting, and a Performance Pack rear spoiler.

Darrell Behmer, Ford Mustang design chief, said, “The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT build with Vaughn and the Ford design team is a great way to honor our heroes and keep the spirit of aviation alive for the next generation of American pilots.”

This will be the 20th year Ford has participated in the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture event, and it will be the 10th one-off Mustang it has built for auction. To date, these vehicles have raised more than $3 million toward supporting future generations of pilots.

We at Courtesy Ford of Sauk City are proud of Ford’s dedication to this incredible event.
