A majority of plastics go un-recycled, leading to tons of waste with a harmful impact on the environment. That’s why Ford is committed to reducing plastic waste by recycling used plastics into its vehicles.
Ford prioritizes protecting the environment in many ways, from fuel-efficient powertrains to green-friendly factory operations. The automaker is taking even more steps to become a cleaner company by recycling 1.2 billion plastic bottles every year for use in vehicle parts.
Not only is recycling used plastics good for the environment, Ford recycles plastic bottles because it’s good for manufacturing as well. Recycled plastic is extremely lightweight yet can be surprisingly durable, making it the perfect material for the use in constructing certain car parts, such as underbody shields that reduce aerodynamic drag without adding too much weight to the vehicle.
“Ford is among the leaders when it comes to using recycled materials,” Ford design engineer Thomas Sweder said, “and we do it because it makes sense technically and economically as much as it makes sense for the environment.”
This is one of many ways Ford cares about the Earth, and that environmental concern goes to its many hybrid and electric vehicles, too, which you can find at Courtesy Ford.
