Ford Research Team Focuses on AI and Robotics

Ford Research Team

Ford has been re-evaluating its goals and changing positions as the company slowly becomes more focused on technological innovations. Some of the recent changes at the company have resulted in the funding of a new Ford research team, termed the Robotics and AI Research team, which is under the umbrella of the company’s Research and Advanced Engineering department.

The announcement came from Ford Research and Engineering VP Dr. Ken Washington, who unveiled the introduction of the new team in a post on his Medium account. Earlier this year he said, Ford made a major investment in the up-and-coming company Argo AI, and Ford will be working together with the company in order to make significant strides in the field of robotics and AI (Artificial Intelligence). Washington also mentions he expects the field to blossom within the next decade.

Ford intends to collaborate with Argo AI on two fleets of self-driving cars by at least 2021, and one of them is expected to be here in time for Ford’s ride-hailing services.

Who knows? Maybe sometime within the next ten years you’ll be seeing self-driving cars on the lot here at Courtesy Ford of Sauk City thanks to the new Ford research team. Until then, stop by and check out our inventory of capable traditional vehicles.
