Ford engineers recently put the new high-strength aluminum-alloy cargo box of the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty through the gamut. Testing the aftermarket parts on the new Super Duty, Ford ran every sort of experiment they could contrive to ensure these parts work well under pressure.

According to Ford, the Super Duty cargo box is made from the same high-strength, military-grad aluminum alloy that is used on the chassis and body of the truck. This material is dent-resistant, quality-built, and it can’t develop rust.

“Ford Super Duty customers depend on their trucks to work hard every day across a variety of jobs,” said Kirk Leonard, vehicle integration engineer for Ford. “We drove prototype vehicles over the durability roads of the Ford Proving Grounds fitted with common aftermarket accessories to test the fitment and capability of our toughest pickup box ever.“

The 2017 Super Duty accessories also include heavy-duty four-wheel drive components, driveline, axles, towing, and hardware. Not only do these parts add utility and increase performance, but they’re also lightweight, so you don’t lose fuel economy by adding them.

Ford has unveiled its highly-anticipated 2017 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks, which are all-new and tougher than ever.

Borrowing from what it learned when injecting aluminum into the F-150, Ford built a new high-strength military-grade aluminum-body alloy for the Super Duty, which helps it lose weight while gaining strength. The frame, of course, is still high-strength steel.

Using a lighter material for the body allowed Ford to use stronger parts in other areas, such as larger brakes, hitches, and axles and stronger driveline and transfer cases. In spite of this, overall weight was still down 350 lbs., allowing the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty to use more of its mighty power to haul something else rather than itself.

Speaking of which, we still don’t have exact figures as to what the Super Duty will be able to haul and trail, but we imagine they’ll be staggering. The truck will offer a range of engines, including a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 equipped with a new TorqShift-G transmission. And that’s the “weakest” one of the lot.
