If you’re a football fan, you’re probably also a lover of tailgating, the fine art of cooking out and partying with your fellow fans before a game. Tailgating is tons of fun, but it also requires a lot of preparation, and whether or not you bring all the necessities can make or break your party. Here are five tailgating essentials you’ll never want to be without again.
No one likes a warm beer or soda, and coolers are also good for keeping perishable foods cold, like meat and veggies. Don’t forget the ice! You’ll also want to remember bottle openers (if you’re not just drinking twist tops), kid-friendly drinks, and water. It’s important to stay hydrated, especially if you’re drinking.
Pre-prepared food (and the grill)
Cook some food in advance! Sides, cooked sandwich toppers, and desserts can all be made the day before so you don’t spend the entire time manning the grill. Don’t forget lighter fluid!
Comforts from home
You will want chairs, blankets for when it’s cold, a tent or some kind of cover in case of bad weather, and a table to eat at. You’ll also have a much better time if you bring some entertainment, like a sound system that hooks up to your truck—especially if you’re listening to the game instead of watching.
Make your truck easy to find for friends who are joining you and celebrate your team with flags and other decorations.
Bring jumper cables, a flashlight, and any tools you might need if you have car troubles. And protect yourself too! Apply sunscreen regularly and don’t spend too much time in the sun.
